I'm interested in...

Conwy is an amazing place to live and work. We've a rich heritage in our buildings and historical sites but there is also a community heritage that also has value.

This project aims to explore our food heritage. We want to:

  • know more about our cultural identity through our food heritage
  • explore how our heritage has been and is protected through social actions like food events.

Over the next twelve months (Dec 2016 - Dec 2017) we’ll be holding events in Conwy, meeting with some of the local businesses that are keeping our food heritage alive and trying some of the food. We’ll be collecting local memories, recipes and stories as well as trying out food practices. Then at the end of the year we’ll be holding an exhibition of everything we’ve found.

  • 3 Honey & Bee Facts

    There are over 25,000 species of bees worldwide.

    Honey bees communicate with one another by dancing.

    Honey is the only food source produced by an insect that humans eat.

  • Ice Cream Facts

    It takes about 50 licks to finish a single scoop ice cream cone.

    February 4th is the National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day.

    In ancient Rome, they ate snow and flavored it with fruit and honey as their ice cream.

  • Conwy Castle

    Conwy Castle has 8 large towers one of which is called the Bakehouse! Conwy Castle was built between 1283 and 1287.
  • Plas Mawr

    Plas Mawr is an Elizabethan townhouse in Conwy, North Wales, dating from the 16th century. They have a traditional Elizabethan kitchen set-up where they make marzipan and other dishes in a traditional way.
  • Aberconwy House

    The only medieval merchant's house in Conwy to have survived the turbulent history of the walled town over nearly six centuries. Aberconwy House is the oldest house in Conwy and has been selling food and produce for centuries!
